Main Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • Ground Pork: 1 pound, ensures juicy filling
  • Vegetables: Diced onion, carrots, cabbage, and green onions for crunch
  • Aromatics: Minced garlic and ground ginger for authentic flavor
  • Lumpia Wrappers: 8 pieces, cut in half to make triangles
  • Seasonings: Soy sauce, salt, and pepper for perfect taste
  • Oils: Avocado oil for cooking, spray oil for air frying

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base: Heat oil in skillet, sauté onions and carrots until soft (3-4 minutes)
  2. Add Aromatics: Stir in garlic for 1 minute until fragrant
  3. Cook the Pork: Add ground pork, cook until no longer pink (6-8 minutes)
  4. Season the Filling: Mix in soy sauce, ginger, salt, pepper, cabbage, and green onions
  5. Cool: Remove from heat and let mixture cool slightly
  6. Wrap: Place filling on triangle wrapper, fold sides, roll up, seal with water
  7. Air Fry: Spray with oil, cook at 370°F for 12 minutes, flipping halfway
  8. Serve: Remove carefully and enjoy hot with your favorite dipping sauce

Cooking Techniques

Making perfect lumpia is all about the rolling technique! Place your wrapper diamond-style (like a diamond shape) on your work surface. Add the filling near the bottom point, fold the bottom corner up over the filling, then bring in both sides. Roll it up nice and snug – not too tight or it might burst, but firm enough to keep everything inside. A dab of water on that final corner helps seal it all together. Don’t worry if your first few rolls aren’t perfect – you’ll get better with practice!

Variations & Substitutions

Want to switch things up? Try ground chicken or turkey instead of pork for a lighter version. Not a fan of cabbage? Swap in bean sprouts or finely chopped green beans. You can also add mushrooms for an extra savory kick! If you can’t find lumpia wrappers, spring roll wrappers will work in a pinch – they’re very similar. Just remember that different wrappers might need slightly different cooking times, so keep an eye on them while they’re in the air fryer.

Serving Suggestions

Lumpia loves a good dipping sauce! Sweet chili sauce is a classic choice, but try these other tasty options: garlic vinegar sauce, banana ketchup, or a simple mix of vinegar and soy sauce. These crispy rolls make amazing appetizers for parties, but you can turn them into a meal by serving them with a side of steamed rice and fresh cucumber slices. A sprinkle of chopped green onions on top adds a nice pop of color!

Storage Tips

Made too many? Lucky you! Let your cooked lumpia cool completely, then pop them in an airtight container. They’ll stay good in the fridge for 3-4 days. To reheat, just put them back in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes at 350°F – they’ll crisp right up! You can also freeze uncooked lumpia for up to 3 months. Just place them in a freezer bag with wax paper between layers. No need to thaw before cooking – just add an extra 2-3 minutes to the cooking time.

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Large Skillet or Wok

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp avocado oil or other neutral oil
  • 1/2 cup onion diced
  • 1/2 cup carrot finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1/2 cup green onion
  • 8 lumpia wrappers
  • cooking spray oil

Instructions

  • Preheat a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the oil and let heat.
  • Add the onion and carrots to the pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes, until the onions are softened.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook an additional 1 minute, stirring often so that the garlic does not burn.
  • Add the pork and cook for 6-8 minutes, until the pork is cooked through and no longer pink.
  • Add the soy sauce, ginger, salt, pepper, shredded cabbage, and green onions to the skillet. Toss to combine and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and let the mixture cool briefly.
  • Cut the lumpia wrappers in half to form triangles. Place a single lumpia triangle wrapper on a flat surface with a pointed end facing upwards.
  • Add 1-2 tablespoons of the pork mixture to the bottom half of the wrapper. Tuck the side corners in to overlap the filling. Roll upwards until you’ve formed a roll. Moisten the upper corner with water to seal the lumpia roll.
  • Place the lumpia in the air fryer basket. Spray each roll with the nonstick cooking spray. Air fry at 370F for 12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Carefully remove the lumpia from the air fryer. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
