Tips for Perfect Apple Slicing
Want super-thin, bendable apple slices? Use a sharp knife and aim for slices about 1/8 inch thick. If you have one, a mandoline slicer works great too! The thinner your slices, the easier they’ll be to roll into those pretty roses. Just watch those fingers – safety first!
Make-Ahead Options
You can prep these lovely roses up to 2 hours before cooking! Just keep your assembled roses in the fridge, covered with plastic wrap. This is super handy when you’re planning a brunch or special breakfast. Don’t make them too far ahead though – the apples might brown and the pastry could get soggy.
Serving Ideas
These apple roses aren’t just pretty – they’re so fun to serve! Try them warm with:
- A scoop of vanilla ice cream
- A drizzle of caramel sauce
- A dollop of whipped cream
- A sprinkle of crushed walnuts or pecans They’re perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert!
Apple Choices
While this recipe uses Red Fuji apples, you can mix it up! Pink Lady apples give a nice tart flavor, while Honeycrisp adds extra sweetness. Just pick firm apples that hold their shape when cooked. Mix red and green apples for a beautiful color combo in your roses!
Storage Tips
Keep your baked apple roses in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Want them warm again? Pop them in the air fryer for 1-2 minutes at 300°F. They’ll taste almost as good as fresh!
Cinnamon Air Fryer Apple Roses
Equipment
- Air Fryer
- Silicone Cupcake Liners
- Rolling Pin
- Microwave
- Colander
Ingredients
- 3 Crisp Apples (Red Fuji)
- 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 2 sheets Puff Pastry
- 3 tbsp Ground Cinnamon
- Powdered Sugar for decorating
- Honey to drizzle (optional)
Instructions
- Take all of your apples and slice them in half. Core out the middle to remove the seeds. Slice them as thin as possible and place in a large microwavable bowl.
- Add to your bowl your lemon juice and fill enough water to cover your apple slices so that they float.
- Place in the microwave for three minutes or until the slices are soft and pliable.
- While your apple slices are in the microwave, prepare your working station by lightly flouring a flat surface. Layout one pastry sheet and roll it with a rolling pin just a couple of times. Cut your pastry sheet into six slices.
- Remove your apples from the microwave and drain the water from the bowl using a colander. Taking one of the six slices of your pastry sheet, place an apple slice horizontally with the round part (skin) just outside the edge of the pastry sheet. Take your next apple slice and continue the same thing but overlap your apple slice slightly. Continue until all of your pastry sheet is lined with apple slices. Sprinkle with 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon powder.
- Take the bottom part of your pastry sheet and fold up to line itself with the pastry sheet underneath.
- Roll your pastry sheet and apple slices, and slightly pinch the ends.
- Place in your silicone cupcake liners and put in your air fryer.
- Cook at 375°F for 7 minutes or until the dough is fully baked.
- Remove from the air fryer and serve warm. Lightly dust with powdered sugar. For an extra dose of sweetness, drizzle with honey, or agave!
